How Ozone Water Purifiers Work
A distinctive fresh scent in the air is noticed by many after a summer thunderstorm. This fresh smell is actually ozone, which is naturally created from lightning bolts during the electrical storm. The sun's ultraviolet rays also create ozone.
Ozone is pure oxygen, made up of three oxygen atoms. One of the atoms is weaker than the others and will attach to things like bacteria and viruses and oxidize them, or turn them into something else.
Ozonated water purification systems create ozone (O3) in what is called the ozone generator. Inside this special chamber is a high intensity ultraviolet light.
