what's negative ion? 
an ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving it a net positive or negative electrical charge.
"ions" are charged particles. they are floating in the air around us all of the time and have either negative or positive charges. ions that are negatively charged are called "negative ions" or "anions". ions that are positively charged are called "positive ions" or "cations".  for example, oxygen occupies larger proportion in the air, resulting in formation of oxygen anions as the free electrons are captured by oxygen molecules.
ions can be generated when a large amount of energy is applied to an atom or a molecule. negative ions are created in nature with air molecules broken apart by uv radiation from sunlight, cosmic radiation, radioactive substances, thunderstorm, waterfalls and sea waves. 

negative ion has been recognized as "the vitamin of the air ", confirming its health effect on human, ionic research from leading institutions, along with worldwide clinical studies have proven its therapeutic effect. the concentration of negative ions in our living environment has been along observed to be correlated closely to the hunman health. negative ion also have been used as an important indicator for air and environment quality.  
how is negative ion produced?

how are they produced? 
negative ions may be produced in several ways. the ions we are concerned with, oxygen ions, are most commonly produced through disturbance of water molecules, such as in fast flowing rivers or indoor waterfalls. the disturbance of water molecules occasionally displaces an electron, causing it to break off from its host. this spare electron then seeks out another oxygen molecule as a host, giving this molecule an extra electron, and therefore a negative charge.
